Assists pharmacist in preparing drugs for dispensing (e.g. appropriate product selection, labeling, compounding, and repackaging with completion of appropriate records, etc.); maintains an accurate computer profile for each patient receiving medications within the institution according to department and hospital policies and procedures. Prepares drugs for automated dispensing to be checked by a pharmacist, restocks automated dispensing equipment, assists with monitoring automated dispensing equipment and maintaining this equipment in good working order. Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile products including parenteral nutrition solutions, chemotherapy, and irrigation solutions under the direction and supervision of a pharmacist. Assists with management of drug stock (e.g. shelves new drug stock with proper rotation of items, arranges stock and organizes storage areas, documents for ordering items, etc.); Assists pharmacists in ensuring drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner (e.g. floor stock, automated dispensing systems, surgery carts, emergency room carts, crash carts, etc.); assists pharmacists in ensuring that pharmacy inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items included in he formulary. Fills requests for patient charge or unit/department charge floor stock drugs, delivers medication as required (after being checked by a pharmacist). Assists pharmacists with medication order entry, adverse medication event reporting and trending, and calculation of creatinine clearances; assists with the verification of patient allergies and home medication dosages and compliance, when appropriate. Collects physician orders from nursing units regularly to ensure appropriate follow-up.
Requirements
Completion of high school education, or equivalent, and current licensure with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern. Demonstrates effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to relate to other people and work well in a group environment. Must maintain licensure by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Intern; American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support recommended.
